Shielded Multi-Paired Cables

Here at Interstate we offer shielded multi-paired cable products that have been designed in a variety of gage sizes, dimensions, shielding, jacketing and insulation materials such as PVC, PO, HDPE and PE. Our offerings include twisted pair cables that come in shielded and unshielded variances which are applied in data transmission. Bonded pair cables are also available, they offer uniform conductor-to-conductor spacing that allows for consistent and reliable electrical performance. Bonded-pair cables can be subjected to bending, coiling and pulling stresses without breaks in the performance of the cables.

Shielded vs. Unshielded Cables

Shielded Twisted Pair Cables are cables that have been twisted together and enclosed in some sort of shield, whether it be foil or mesh. These shields protect the wires from electromagnetic interference. Shielded cables are particularly adept at eliminating most crosstalk. Another key difference between shielded and unshielded is that shielded cables do require a ground. Although they can require a bit more finesse with installation, they provide high rates of data transmission.

Unshielded Twisted Pair Cables are more common and consist of two twisted wires that allows for reduction in noise. Unshielded cables do not require a grounding cable and are relatively easy to install, are smaller, lighter, and more flexible. Bonded-Pair Cables

A bonded twisted pair cable is a unique variation in multi-pair cables. For the length of the wire, the two wires of each pair are bonded together, which results in a uniform spacing from conductor-to-conductor. This uniformity can be beneficial for a number of reasons, including easier manipulation and installation while avoiding affecting performance. Furthermore, these cables have been designed to undergo stress that occurs during normal installation. With unbonded cables, kinks and pulling can damage the physical and electrical properties of the cable, whereas with bonded cables, these physical properties are preserved. Furthermore, they are more durable, and therefore cost-efficient, than unbonded.
